We have done tests and can confirm
that this happens with other PPP protocol identifiers other than 0057
(IPv6), and so is not an IPv6 specific issue. We tested with protocol
0075 and had the same result - truncated to 2 bytes when less than 75
bytes sent. So forget IPv6, this is a PPP issue. |

0057. I have packet dumps. If we send 0057 6000 0000 0008 3a40 2001
08b0 0000 0004 0000 0000 5a9b 2a07 2001 08b0 010b 1234 1111 2222 3333
4444 8000 c5a4 2626 0000 we receive a truncated PPP packet that only
has 0057 as the content (just the protocol ID). Packets up to 73 bytes
all come through truncted to just 0057, 74 bytes and more are fine. |

PPP Packets of 74 bytes or less using
PPP protocol identifier 8057 are being corrupted in the direction of CP
to EU. This is a core network fault affecting lines using ESR RASs.
CISCO bug reference CSCsd13298. This applies even when CP and EU have
defined that the IP layer is IPv4 (RFC791) using total header
compression of the IPv4 header within PPP. |
